Sofia Richie Says She Was ‘Giggling, Crying’ with Dad Lionel When He Walked Her Down the Aisle

The fashion model recently opened up about the ‘so surreal’ moment during her April wedding

Sofia Richie Grainge is reminiscing about some “surreal” wedding day memories made with her dad Lionel Richie.

Speaking with Net-a-Porter for this month’s digital cover, the 25-year-old model opened up about how having her father, 74, by her side to walk her down the aisle meant the world to her.

“We were giggling, crying, it was so surreal,” she said, adding that it took the pair seven minutes to complete the aisle walk.

“We have this little look we give each other… [so] we just gave each other this smirk. We were like two giddy little kids following the rabbi, who was telling us what to do,” she continued.

Vogue covered the wedding and Sofia's dress fittings. At the time, she told the publication all about the special walk with her famous father.

"I was watching one by one each bridesmaid and groomsman walk down the aisle, and we were inching closer to the front, and I couldn't believe it was happening," the fashion designer recalled, adding that the “Hello” star said to her, "'You're the love of my life, and I'm so happy for you.' "

"It was very emotional, and I feel so lucky that I have my parents," Sofia told Vogue. "I'm very grateful."

Dad Lionel later told Extra that his daughter spent the whole time saying "I love you, dad, I love you, dad, I love you, dad," on her walk to the altar. "I go... 'You're killing me. You're killing me.' But that's what a dad wants to hear, and I love Baby Girl so much, and the family was there to root her on," he added.

Sofia married music executive Elliot Grainge on April 22 at Hotel du Cap-Eden-Rock in Antibes, France in front of 180 guests including Cameron Diaz and Benji Madden, sister Nicole Richie and her husband Joel Madden, and Paris Hilton and her husband Carter Reum.

Her spring nuptials (and three Chanel wedding dresses) became a hit on social media and the Los Angeles native previously spoke with Town & Country about how her style choices took on a life of their own TikTok, adding that she "went into the wedding with zero motive" to grow her following.

“Chanel had been my favorite designer forever. So someone said, ‘Why don’t you do Chanel?’ And I was like, ‘Oh, I wish it was that easy.’ And then we said, ‘Well, why don’t we ask?’ " she explained to Town & Country. "We reached out, and they were kind enough and open enough to do one dress, the wedding dress."

“Then that kind of segued into, ‘Okay, how am I going to ever find another designer for my rehearsal dinner that could balance out Chanel?’ " she continued. "So I went back to them, and I was like, ‘Feel free to say no... but would you mind doing another?’ They were so sweet, they did a couple more pieces."
