The Social Network writer talks plans for sequel

The Social Network writer Aaron Sorkin has confirmed that he is planning a sequel to the Oscar-winning drama.
2010 movie The Social Network told the story of the founding of social media giant Facebook and the legal issues that surrounded its early days – starring Jesse Eisenberg as founder Mark Zuckerberg.
Sorkin, who is also behind hits including The West Wing and Molly's Game, told MTV's Happy Sad Confused podcast that he is ready to write a sequel to the critically-acclaimed movie, but he has one big condition that needs to be met – he'll only make the film if director David Fincher returns to direct it.

"I do want to see it. And [producer Scott Rudin] wants to see it," he said. "People have been talking to me about it because of what we've discovered is the dark side of Facebook."
He continued: "Do I want to write that movie? Yeah! But I can tell you right now – this is my way of applying public pressure on him – I will only write it if David directs it. If Billy Wilder came back from the grave and said he wanted to direct it, I'd say 'No, it's got to be David'."
Fincher's latest movie Mank is due for release on Netflix on December 4 and the film – which stars Amanda Seyfried and Gary Oldman – is already attracting a lot of buzz.
Sorkin has already seen Mank and was full of praise for it, calling it "so freaking good" and adding that Fincher has "directed this movie just magnificently", calling it "breathtaking even by David Fincher standards".

Sorkin himself also has another potential hit on his hands at the moment with his own Netflix movie The Trial of the Chicago 7 (released on October 16).
But despite Sorkin being as busy as ever, he still has plenty of ideas for The Social Network's sequel, revealing that he recently met with former Facebook investor – and author of 2019 book Zucked Roger McNamee – to talk through ideas centred around Facebook's activity regarding politics.
It looks like if Sorkin and Fincher's schedules do align, we could definitely be getting part two of the Facebook story in future.
