Social & Digital Media-Inspired Projects Dominate Oxygen’s Development Slate

Oxygen Media is expanding its development slate with social- and digital-inspired projects aimed at a multicultural millennial audience.

The network has set three projects: Social Girls (working title), which follows some of the most influential media mavens; Review Rage (wt), a comedic re-enactment of online reviews told from both sides; and Love to Hate (wt), which profiles how a celebrity’s fall from grace can be catastrophic in the digital age.

“These projects tap into the various ways that our young, savvy, multicultural female audience interacts with social media,” said Cori Abraham, SVP Development & International at Oxygen Media. “We hope to shed a fun and positive light on how this generation flourishes in the digital age.”

Oxygen Digital is headed toward its best year ever for average monthly visits (up 83% vs. 2015) and average monthly unique visitors (up 67% vs. 2015), according to Oxygen Media. It saw its best month ever in October with more than 3 million unique visitors.

Here’s a detailed look at Oxygen Media’s new development slate:

“Social Girls” (wt)
Produced by Eastern with Toby Barraud, Stefan Springman and Mala Chapple serving as Executive Producers along with Mona Scott-Young serving as Executive Producer for Monami Entertainment.

There’s a new type of celebrity on the rise as influential social media millennials dominate the feeds of their millions of followers who anticipate their every post. Cameras will follow these selfie queens and their sought after squads as they redefine what it means to be Insta-successful and compete in a world that changes with every upload.

“Review Rage” (wt)
Produced by Wilshire Studios along with Diana Nguyen and Maris Berzins serving as Executive Producers for New Birch Productions and produced by Kaplan Perrone with Aaron Kaplan and Sean Perrone serving as Executive Producers.

Bad service can be a business killer and often a customer’s version of events is the only one we ever hear about…until now. This new comedic series gives businesses and online reviewers the opportunity to vent their frustrations through hilarious reenactments of both sides of the story revealing two wildly different versions of how a business transaction went down. From catastrophic manicures, to horribly awkward waxing appointments, Review Rage will pull back the curtain and tell the “true” story behind 1-star reviews.

“Love to Hate” (wt)
Produced by A. Smith & Co. Dox with Arthur Smith, Frank Sinton and Christmas Rini serving as Executive Producers.

In the fast-paced world of celebrity culture, salacious photos, erroneous tweets, viral rumors and criminal allegations can tank a white-hot career in an instant. Celebrities like Justin Bieber, Lindsay Lohan and Amanda Bynes all had the world as their stage – until a few wrong moves flipped their positive public image upside-down. This hour-long anthology series will profile celebrities who have survived the gauntlet of a public disaster and asked the world for forgiveness. But one question still remains: can the world forgive them?
