YOUR MAMA’S NOTES: Veteran soap story superstar Anthony Geary sold his long-time home high above the Cahuenga Pass in the Hollywood Hills for $950,000. Mister Geary, who can boast a record eight Daytime Emmy Awards for his epic 37-year stint as Luke Spencer on “General Hospital,” purchased the hillside home per property records in 1982 for $262,500. Mister Geary, who along with a long list of other famous folk popped up in the not particularly funny 1989 “Weird Al” Yankovic comedy “UHF,” first appeared on General Hospital in 1978, left the show in 1984 and after not getting much professional traction outside the daytime drama genre returned in 1991. With open views to the south and east that include the tight knot of towers that make up the downtown skyline, the three-story residence measures in at 2,414-square-feet with three bedrooms and 2.5 bathrooms. According to a press release on the transaction, Mister Geary told his real estate agent, Blayne Pacelli of Rodeo Realty, that back in the day when she did a multi-episode arc on “General Hospital” Elizabeth Taylor, with whom Mister Geary had a semi-secret two-year affair, “crashed over a few times.”
The house was described in marketing materials as having “so much potential” and the dated, down-on-her-heels interiors include a wall-to-wall carpeted combination living/dining room with a barn’s worth of rustic exposed wood details, a terra-cotta tile fireplace, a solid wall of floor-to-ceiling smoked glass and two sets of glass sliders that open to a terrace that thrillingly hovers over the deep canyon below. The adjoining kitchen, open to the dining area over a two-seat snack peninsula and unquestionably in desperate need of a full facelift to pull it in to the 21st century, looks completely functional if woefully outfitted with orange ceramic tile counter tops, tired appliances and a quintessentially 1980s lighted ceiling panel. One of the bedrooms, a wonderfully airy, tree house like space with vaulted exposed wood ceiling, wood floors and a towering wall of open book shelves, is on the uppermost level where there is also a street-level two-car garage with convenient direct entry while the other two bedrooms are situated on the lowest floor where each has unfortunately colored if easily replaced wall-to-wall carpeting, college rental-style mirrored closet doors and a small en suite bathroom that, like the kitchen, cries out for a soup-to-nuts decorative refresh.
As far as we can tell from a quick spin through various property record databases, Mister Geary does not own any other residential property in Los Angeles and, according to this report on the May 2015 surprise announcement of his exit from “General Hospital,” planned to decamp to “his home in Amsterdam.”
