Snow leopard survives 400-foot fall while hunting sheep

On Animal Fight Night, a snow leopard nearly killed itself in the process of getting dinner. The leopard was chasing down a bharal, otherwise known as a Himalayan blue sheep. The predator leaped and caught the bharal, but the momentum sent both animals hurtling off a cliff. Even after landing, they continued to topple down the mountain, finally stopping about 400 feet down. Through the descent, the leopard refused to let go of the bharal, which continued to try to escape — even though seemingly neither should have survived the initial fall.

The leopard appeared unscathed, save for a few bumps and bruises. The bharal? Not so much. After nearly killing itself to capture it, the leopard came away with a week’s worth of food.

Animal Fight Night airs Sundays at 10 p.m. on Nat Geo Wild.
