Snoop Dogg Says Kanye West Has “No Black Women In His Life”
On Friday (May 18), rap’s favorite surrogate uncle, Snoop Dogg, sat down with Power 105.1’s The Breakfast Club to discuss the “issues” plaguing rap in a way that only a veteran like The Doggfather could.
“I believe it is our fault, the generation of the 90s, because we did not teach. We got the game, got control of it, and we did not bother to teach like it was taught to us,” Snoop explained. “So, when the next generation gets ahold of it if they’re not taught, they’re going to teach themselves. And I’m one of the ones who didn’t teach. That’s why I take the time to teach now because I understand as a grown man I can fall into the position of ‘Uncle Snoop.’”
He then added to the discourse surrounding Kanye West, stating how strong women can often stabilize the irrational thoughts people like West may experience.
“I look at the rappers in the game that have wives that have strong women in their lives, and they’re stable up top too. Their mental is strong,” the West Coast staple stated around the 14-minute mark. “I’m just saying, and I hate to make this a black and white thing, but [Kanye] doesn’t have any black women in his life…and that’s when I start to think about how [his mother] was instrumental in his life.”
The 46-year-old artist added that the soul West’s music possessed became a thing of the past since his mother’s passing in 2007. “And if you never lost your mother you can’t understand that feeling,” Snoop said. “And that’s when I started to sympathize and think, ‘Maybe the women in his life should look into getting him some help from some women that are stronger than them.’ … You can’t be afraid to ask for help.”
Yet, Dogg’s concerns were not all somber. True to his jokester persona, he ended his Kardashian-centric commentary by sending a plea to rapper Travis Scott. While referencing the movie Get Out, Snoop said, “Y’all better go get that cup of tea away from that n***a. Travis. If you’re listening, get out now!” Scott is romantically linked to Kim Kardashian’s half-sister Kylie Jenner. The pair welcomed their first child together in February.
