Snoop Dogg remembered accidentally getting Pharrell “so high” that he abandoned Stevie Wonder in the studio. During a conversation with Latto for Rolling Stone, Snoop recalled working with P and Wonder in a studio session. The Death Row boss humorously detailed getting Williams high through secondhand smoke which left the producer “stuck.” Skateboard P stopped talking as the high settled in and Snoop had to begin giving Stevie direction while in the booth.

“I got so many [favorite studio sessions]. One that stand out to me is when me, Pharrell, and Stevie Wonder was in the studio. We smoking. We in a little-a** room. Pharrell done got high, he got secondhand smoke,” he recalls. “Now Stevie in the booth and Pharrell ain’t saying sh*t. Stevie in that motherf**ker trying to figure out what to do. I’m like, ‘Pharrell, produce this ni**a.’ This ni**a’s so high, he leaves Stevie in the booth and don’t give him no direction.”

“And I’m trying to tell Stevie what to do. I don’t know what the f**k to do. I’m not a producer,” he added. “I told the ni**a, ‘Just play anything.’ When we finished, Pharrell took all of the good s**t that he played. Because he was playing harmonica, singing and sh*t, and it ended up working. But it was funny to me that this ni**a been around me this long, but today he finally gets so high that he leaves Stevie in there. They left a ni**a in there, where he had to walk out by himself. Shout-out my ni**a, Stevie.”

Latto then chimed in and shared her own experience in the studio with Pharrell. She recalled when she was confused about why he wanted to work with her. And his answer left her in awe as she was “embraced” by someone of his status in the industry.

“Oh, Lord. I had a week of sessions with [Pharrell] in Miami, and I kept [asking] him, ‘What made you want to f**k with me?’ And he was just like, ‘I f**k with you.’ As someone new stepping into the scene, it’s indescribable to be embraced by people who have already made it in your lane.”

The song Snoop is most likely referring to is “California Roll,” which features both Pharrell and the great Stevie Wonder. “California Roll” was recorded for his LP, BUSH, produced entirely by the Virginia hitmaker. The trio’s duo peaked at no. 15 on Billboard’s US R&B Songs.
