SNL Video: Timothée Chalamet’s Clueless Hip Hop Artist Earns a Spanking

Timothee Chalamet’s second turn as guest host of Saturday Night Live gives us not one, but two recurring characters from his first stint on the show. One is a bonkers expansion of the Tiny Horse Cinematic Universe and the other is the return of the most successful hip hop artist of all time: SmokeCheddaDaAssGetta.

As every good Chalamaniac knows, Chalamet went under the moniker Li’l Timmy Tim during his high school career as a rapper. That early love of hip hop led to an SNL sketch back in 2020 with Pete Davidson where he plays a SoundCloud rapper named SmokeCheddaThaAssGetta. On a panel with Punkie Johnson as Queen Latifah and the real QuestLove, the two white rappers get clowned for their lack of credibility.

And now he’s back – solo this time – and as obnoxious as ever. SmokeCheddaDaAssGetta (presumably “Da” instead of “Tha” lends extra street cred) is now on a panel with Mary J. Blige, also played by Johnson, James Austin Johnson’s Rick Rubin and Kenan Thompson as Dr. Cornel West.

Chedda is part of this 50th Anniversary of Hip Hop discussion because his band Zan Mob has a trillion streams making them – technically – the most successful artist of all time. Despite that, he doesn’t know who the Notorious B.I.G. is and thinks the greatest rappers are TikTok personality Dixie D’Amelio and the woman who sings the “Nationwide is on your side” insurance jingle.

But not even his Oscar nominated acting chops can keep him from breaking into a grin as he’s hopping around screaming, “Drip! Water! Splash splash!” — ultimately compelling a fellow panelist to spank his poser posterior.
