SNL Sends Love to Former Cast Member Dana Carvey After His Son’s Death — Watch Video

Saturday Night Live gave a nod of support to former cast member Dana Carvey and his wife Paula Zwagerman this weekend, after their 32-year-old son Dex died of an accidental overdose earlier this week.

As the episode hosted by Jason Momoa wrapped, Colin Jost stood on stage holding a sign that read, “We love you Dana and Paula.” (Watch video below.)

Earlier in the week, Carvey posted to Instagram to thank people for the “beautiful messages” he and his family received in the wake of his son’s passing. He also announced, “I will be taking a break from work and social media — trying to figure out what life looks like now that we are a family of three.”

Carvey was a cast member on SNL for seven seasons between 1986 and 1993. He was nominated for five Emmys, winning once in 1993. He’s known for his impersonation of George H.W. Bush and his portrayal of several fictional characters including the Church Lady. He also originated the character Garth in the recurring Wayne’s World sketches opposite Mike Myers’ Wayne. The sketch inspired the eponymous 1992 film and its 1993 sequel.

He currently co-hosts the podcast Fly on the Wall with fellow SNL vet David Spade. The pair reminisce about their times on the sketch comedy show, featuring visits from former hosts, writers and musical guests.
