‘SNL’ Season Finale Recap: Jay Z & Solange Fight Mocked, St. Vincent Rocks New Songs

“Saturday Night Live” didn’t waste any time in addressing the Met Gala elevator fight between Jay Z and Solange during the show’s season finale on May 14.

“SNL” kicked off the last episode of season 39 with Jay Z (Jay Pharoah), Solange (Sasheer Zamata) and a bodyguard (Kenan Thompson) assuring viewers that all was well with the high-profile musical family.

As proof, Solange showed security footage with an audio track revealing she hadn’t been attacking Jay Z — she’d been helping brush a spider off of him.

“Oh my god there’s a spider on you,” Solange yelled. Jay Z begged her to get the spider off of him, instructing her to “kick it!”  As an added bonus, “SNL” alum Maya Rudolph made a surprise appearance as Beyonce.

Kanye West and Kim Kardashian, who are getting married in Italy next week, weren’t spared either. Watch a spoof on their wedding plans below.

Elsewhere, host Andy Samberg didn’t quite reach Justin Timberlake-Jimmy Fallon heights in during the fnale, but he got closer than anyone else this year.

The “SNL” alum returned to bring back a number of his famous bits and debut a new Lonely Island track centered on a man-whore who hugs ladies and then leaves ’em. (Hat tip to Pharrell Williams for helping out.)

Samberg also debuted digital short centering on a DJ (hilariously named “Davvincii, a clear spoof of Swedish DJ Avicii) who believes in delayed gratification. At one point in the skit, Davvincii (played by Samberg) turns up the bass so much that the heads in the crowd start literally exploding.

Another Samberg special that made its resurgence: Blizzard Man. This time, rapper 2 Chainz brought Blizzard Man to save a track, with Samberg offering such lyrical gems as “Two and a Half Men made better by the Kutch.”

The always stunning St. Vincent made her “SNL” debut to perform new songs “Digital Witness” and “Birth in Reverse.”

St. Vincent, whose real name is Annie Clark, appeared on the show in support of her new self-titled album, which was released Feb. 21 on Loma Vista Recordings. The singer-guitarist recently toured the U.S. and is scheduled for festival dates around the world through July. Later this year she’ll join the Black Keys on the rock duo’s North American arena tour.
