Will Smith’s resume is real enough for two millenniums, yet his work ethic has never ceased. The multi-talent is gearing up for a musical comeback by way of a joint album with Joyner Lucas.

The Worcester, Mass., rapper took to Instagram on Monday (Sept. 25) to wish the Fresh Prince actor a happy 55th birthday. “Dear hero. I never thought I’d ever meet you,” Lucas wrote. As he continued to give the acting legend his flowers, he revealed that they have a collaborative project in the works. “Still trips me out that I grew up idolizing you, to then me making a record about my admiration and respect for you, to then you asking me to create a whole album with you.”

His celebratory post also included footage of the two in the studio together. This project would mark Smith’s first LP since 2005’s Lost And Found, but not the last time he has been on any music at all. Coincidentally, he joined Lucas on the remix to a track titled “Will” which paid homage to his TV and film career in 2020. Check out the birthday post and footage below.

Joyner Lucas’ musical recognition of Will Smith didn’t stop in 2020. Earlier in 2023, he released “Devil’s Work Part 2” which reimagined several major pop culture happenings, namely what the world would be like if Smith hadn’t slapped Chris Rock at the Oscars in March 2022.

“Erase that Will Smith slap and turn him back around/ Or wait ’til they get backstage so they could have it out,” he rapped. “Or maybe make it so that Chris chose a different joke/ A different topic, somethin’ Jada won’t be mad about.”

Lucas and Smith’s collaborative energy won’t stop with their forthcoming album either, as the former is set to appear in the upcoming Bad Boys 4 film. Will Smith, along with DJ Jazzy Jeff, was the first rap act to win a Grammy and MTV Video Music Award. Decades later, he’s not stopping and is investing a newer talent. Listen to the “Will” remix below.
