'We don't know what damage will be': Amanda Kloots offers mixed news on husband Nick Cordero's coronavirus battle

Nick Cordero's wife Amanda Kloots updated fans on her Instagram Stories late Thursday after her husband was taken off the ECMO (extracorporeal membrane oxygenation) machine in his ongoing battle with coronavirus.

She offered good and bad news for the Tony-nominated Broadway actor.

"The surgery went well. The doctor said for Nick's heart and lungs right now they are in the best condition that they could be," she said, adding that he is still on medication to pump his heart and a ventilator to breathe.

"The next hours coming up are very important because the heart and lung are running on their own now for the first time in couple of days," she said.

The unfortunate news is that Cordero is still having issue with blood flow to his right leg, she shared.

"The doctor went in there, fixed as much as they possibly could to get blood flow down to his toes again. We don't know what the damage will be. We don't know if he will be able to walk again. We don't know if he can walk again, what that will look like."

She ended her video series by saying they anticipate "a lot of rehab," that she appreciates all the support and that she is understandably "exhausted."

On Wednesday, Kloots, a fitness trainer, shared to Instagram some "small wins" in Cordero's journey.

"Nick is getting stronger and the AMAZING doctors and nurses think they can take him off ECMO (extracorporeal membrane oxygenation) soon!" she captioned a workout video. "This would mean his heart and lungs would be functioning on their own.

"Anything can change in an instant," she acknowledged, "but we are staying positive! HE IS HEARING US GUYS!" She added "#wakeupnick."

She shared on Instagram Thursday that several people who worked with her husband joined together in prayer.

"Over 70 cast members from one of Nicks shows, A Bronx Tale came together to pray for Nick (Wednesday). He will be so moved by this," she said. "This is a beautiful prayer, it brought me to tears. I will be saying it all day as I wait to hear how things go today."

Kloots has been documenting her husband's ordeal on the social media platform.

Late Saturday night, Kloots shared scary details in an Instagram Story: Cordero had a new infection in his lung that caused his fever to spike, his blood pressure to drop and his heart to beat irregularly.

“He lost consciousness, he lost his pulse and they had to resuscitate him. ... They had a very hard time getting him back,” she said. Then “I got a phone call at 2:30 in the morning, they needed my consent to put him on dialysis to assist with his kidneys.”

“This afternoon, we got a phone call that things were really moving in the right direction and that his life was being saved, which was huge. And we all kind of celebrated for a minute until ... they had to go into immediate surgery to save the blood flow to his leg.”

On April 1 she asked her followers for prayers, after Cordero was diagnosed with pneumonia.

"Unfortunately we think he was misdiagnosed and we are waiting to hear if this is in fact COVID. He is scared, in the ICU and now unconscious so his body can get enough oxygen," she wrote. "We are all trying to stay positive and strong knowing that he is in the best care.

"I miss him terribly," she continued, explaining she was not permitted to visit him.

"Nick is scared too, this has gone from bad to worse," she added, saying "he is very weak and having a hard time breathing."

"My hubby is fighting like a champ but this is serious," she wrote. "Please stay home everybody."
