Slow Pulp’s Emily Massey joins Kyle Meredith to talk about the band’s latest album, Yard, plus their upcoming tour with Death Cab for Cutie and The Postal Service. Listen to the new episode above, or wherever you get your podcasts.

The vocalist/guitarist outlines how 2000s indie rock, especially the music from The O.C., influenced the way Slow Pulp approached their sound. Also impacting their sound is Americana, as Massey talks about how finding a Lucinda Williams CD moved their aural marker to more rootsy pastures. “I think there’s this kind of desolate dryness that we try to figure out that relates to a lot of Lucinda Williams’ work,” she recalls. “We’re all just so inspired by her.”

Massey goes on to discuss how she deals with her doubts and anxieties as a frontperson in a band, how watching The Beatles documentary recalibrated her definition of success, and what it means to be touring with Death Cab for Cutie and The Postal Service (get tickets to the upcoming dates here.)
