Friday, Aug. 4
Slovenian Exhibit at Pueblo Heritage Museum
201 W. B St. | 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. | The "All things Slovene" exhibit was created with leadership from Toni Carter and local Slovenian Heritage groups. The exhibit is accompanied by Slovenian arts, books, crafts and T-shirt sales. The museum is open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, and the exhibit runs through Dec. 22. Admission is $6 for adults, $5 for students, military and seniors 55 or older, $4 for children ages 6-12, $3 as part of Museums 4 All for electronic benefit transfer card holders, or free for members.
Rocky Mountain Art at Steel City Art Works
216 S. Union Ave. | 5-8 p.m. | Celebrate First Friday Art Walk with local artists. "Rocky Mountain Art" and "Toasting Creativity" shows will run all month. The Gallery is open free to the public 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and noon to 4 p.m. Sunday.
First Friday reception and concert at Blo Back Gallery
131 Spring St. | 5-8 p.m., followed by a concert at 8 p.m. | The event features the "Handkind" exhibit by Tom and Jean Latka and the "Illuminated" work of L Savas Razo. The concert features Jeffrey Dallet, acoustic musician from Denver. Suggested concert admission is $5-$10.
Square Dance Festival at Red Barn Hall
3320 Arena Road | 6:30-10 p.m. Friday and Saturday and again from 9:30-11:30 a.m. and 12:30-2:30 p.m. Sunday | The Hi Country Square Dance event will feature national callers Joe Saltel from Texas and Mike Hogan from Nebraska and national cuers Peter and Chama Gomez from Denver thanks to sponsor Southeast Area Square Dance Council. Zumbathon school supplies fundraiser at El Centro del Quinto Sol
609 E. 10th St. | 10 a.m. to noon | Donate new school supplies and enjoy two hours of free Zumba. School supply donations also are accepted from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays through Aug. 11 at the Pueblo Parks and Recreation Administration Office, 800 Goodnight Ave.
Backpack Giveaway at Halfway Home Pueblo
803 W. Fourth St. parking lot | 11 a.m. | The nonprofit youth resource center dedicated to educating and mentoring children will host a backpack giveaway. Donations are still being accepted and needed items include pens, pencils, art supplies, pencil cases, glue, notebooks, calculators and backpacks. For more info, call William Wright at 719-334-0010.
VFW Warriors Poker Run at Pueblo Community College
900 W. Orman Ave. | Kickstands up at 11 a.m., events at 2 p.m. at Colorado State University Pueblo Pavilion Stage, 2200 Bonforte Blvd. | The event will celebrate 20 years of Veterans Upward Bound with a poker run, a car and bike wash by the Wolfpack Dance Team and Pack Cheer, a cornhole tournament, food trucks and live music. Cost is $15 for single riders, $20 for a couple, plus $5 for an extra hand. Proceeds will benefit veteran scholarships in southern Colorado.
Astronomical Society Club Picnic at Delores Huerta school park
2727 W. 18th St. | 3-7 p.m. | The Southern Colorado Astronomical Society picnic is open to all who are interested in the wonders of the sky. The park is located across from Delores Huerta Preparatory High School. Since food and drink will be provided, participants should notify the club about number of participants by emailing qmmechanicer@gmail.com. Participants should bring their own chairs.
New exhibit opening at El Pueblo History Museum
301 N. Union Ave. | 5-8 p.m. | The Rainbows & Revolutions Exhibit, highlighted by artifacts and stories defining acts of rebellion, self-expression and solidarity in the Pueblo community as part of the movement for equality, will open. The event is free.
Cody Cozz concert at Pueblo Ice Arena
100 N. Grand Ave. | Doors open at 6 p.m., concert at 7:30 p.m. | Cozz, a Nashville-based country artist originally from Pueblo, will perform with Dan Marshall. Cost is $30-$40 and tickets are on sale at tickets.pueblobullshockey.com.
