Sloop John S? Beach Boys invite famous guest to join them on tour, including in Utica

Are the Beach Boys popular enough for them to play to a full house during their May 31 concert at the Stanley Theatre in Utica?

Just in case, they’ll be getting some help, but not from Rhonda.

Actor and musician John Stamos, best known for playing the role of Uncle Jesse in the sitcom "Full House," will be joining the Beach Boys in Utica and at other performances scheduled this summer as part of the band’s Endless Summer Gold 2024 tour.

The tour is making stops all over the country to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the album "Endless Summer," proving that the boys still get around.

Stamos, billed as a special guest, described Beach Boys songs as “heart music” that bypasses the brain.

“I believe their songs have been patiently waiting for this moment, perfectly timed to uplift spirits, especially when needed the most,” he said in a statement. “I’m humbled that I get to be part of something truly special, something bigger than ourselves.”

A Beach Boys concert serves as a reminder that music “holds the power to heal and unite,” he added.

The Beach Boys have played in the area numerous times over the years, including regular concerts at Turning Stone Resort Casino in Verona (for which Mike Love gave an interview to the O-D in 2014) as well as performing at Doubleday Field in Cooperstown and the New York State Fair in Syracuse.

Stamos first played with the band on July 4, 1985, during a concert at the Washington Monument for nearly a million people. The musicians must have shared some good vibrations because they’ve been having fun, fun, fun teaming up together ever since.

The Beach Boys appeared on "Full House" and Stamos has been in several Beach Boys videos. He even directed the “Hot Fun in the Summertime” video. And God only knows how many times they’ve sung together.

Stamos and the Beach Boys have at least one thing in common besides music, too. They both have books out.

“The Beach Boys by The Beach Boys,” the only group-authorized book, tells their story of their rise from playing in the Wilson brothers’ garage in Hawthorne, California, to international renown.

Stamos’ “If You Would Have Told Me,” a New York Times best-selling memoir, was released last October.

And a new documentary, “The Beach Boys,” started streaming on Disney+ on Friday.
