Sling TV Says ‘Fixer Upper’ And ‘The Incredibles’ Were 2018’s Most Popular Show And Movie Rental

Sling TV has revealed the most popular shows, movies and live events of 2018 among the 2.4 million subscribers to its skinny-bundle TV service.

Fixer Upper, the wildly popular Chip and Joanna Gaines series that has just wrapped up its run on HGTV, topped the series list. It edged The Big Bang Theory, Family Guy, House Hunters and Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, in order. (Discovery, it is worth noting, snagged three of the top five spots.)

The most DVR’d show on the Dish Network internet-delivered TV service was Live PD, which knocked The Walking Dead out of the top spot.

The ranking of top movie rentals was topped by The Incredibles, whose sequel proved a major 2018 hit, followed by Black Panther and Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle. In terms of overall movie viewing, Jurassic World and Step Brothers grabbed the top two spots.

News events that were the top draws included mid-term election coverage, the royal wedding and the Brett Kavanaugh Supreme Court confirmation hearings. Election Night ranked No. 3 on the list of most-watched live events, which was otherwise dominated by sports, with college football playoff games and Game 5 of the NBA’s Western Conference finals completing the list.
