Sleater-Kinney have announced their 11th album, Little Rope. Carrie Brownstein and Corin Tucker also shared the LP’s first single “Hell” on Tuesday. The album arrives on Jan. 19 via Loma Vista.

The LP is set to comprise 10 songs that “veer from spare to anthemic, catchy to deliberately head-turning,” according to a press release. The project was created after Brownstein’s mother and stepfather were killed in a car accident in Italy.

More from Rolling Stone

“As Brownstein and Tucker moved through the early aftermath of the tragedy, elements of what was to become the emotional backbone of Little Rope began to form – how we navigate grief, who we navigate it with, and the ways it transforms us” a release explained. “The result is a collision of certainty and uncertainty evident from the first few spare seconds [of ‘Hell’].”

The video for the lead single, directed by Ashley Connor, stars Miranda July in a black-and-white, ominous artistic portrayal of the song’s themes of uncertainty. Along with “Hell,” the LP includes songs such as “Say It Like You Mean It,” “Small Finds,” “Don’t Feel Right,” and “Dress Yourself.” This marks the group’s first project of original music since 2021’s Path of Wellness, which featured songs such as “Worry With You” and “High in the Grass.”

The group will also go on their Little Rope tour across North America early next year, starting off in San Diego on Feb. 28, before making stops in New York, Boston, Los Angeles, and Portland.
