Audible has announced it is creating an audio series spin-off of Joss Whedon’s Buffy the Vampire Slayer. It is set to feature most of the original cast reprising their roles. Entertainment Weekly exclusively broke the news.
Slayers: A Buffyverse Story takes place 20 years after the events of the series finale and follows everyone’s favorite sarcastic vampire Spike. James Marsters, Charisma Carpenter, Anthony Head, Juliet Landau, Emma Caulfield, Amber Benson, James Charles Leary, and Danny Strong all return.
Slayers begins with Spike deep undercover in Los Angeles, where he has convinced the forces of darkness that he’s back to his evil ways. But when his cover is compromised by 16-year-old Indira Nunnally (newcomer Laya DeLeon Hayes), Spike ends up on baby-slayer-sitting duty again. As he tries to seek out a watcher for his eager new protégé, their paths collide with the veteran Slayer of a parallel reality where Buffy Summers never existed and Cordelia Chase (Charisma Carpenter) is the one-and-only Slayer. This Cordelia needs Spike’s help with a familiar menace terrorizing her world… his one-time beau, Drusilla (Juliet Landau).
Spike Speaks on Reunion
“I’m ecstatic to be back with my dear friends for this next chapter in the Buffyverse, as we take listeners on a familiar but unexpected journey chock full of horror, passion and mischief,” says Spike actor James Marsters “I’m excited for old and new fans to experience this beloved world of vampire slaying like never before, brought to life through immersive audio storytelling.”
While it may not be quite as thrilling a prospect as a reunion television series, it’s still pretty exciting to get the band back together in any form (even with the odd notable absence). More details will be available at a New York Comic Con panel on October 13, 2023.
The series premieres on Audible on October 12, 2023
