The Trailer for the Epic New King Kong Ride Gives a Sneak Preview of the Monster Flick Reboot

A year before the new King Kong reboot arrives in theaters, devoted fans will be able to make the dangerous journey to Skull Island.

Universal Studios in Orlando announced on Wednesday that a new ride experience, Skull Island: Reign of Kong, will open up in 2016, offering fans an immersive preview (above) of the exotic world that will be on display in director Jordan Vogt-Robert’s 2017 film Kong: Skull Island.

The ride will send fans on a journey during which they’ll “navigate perilous jungles, explore ancient temple structures and encounter hostile natives” before coming face-to-face with the eighth wonder of the world himself, King Kong. No word yet on whether Tom Hiddleston and Michael Keaton, the stars of the 2017 film, will make a virtual appearance.

This is just the latest chapter in the long saga of Universal Studios’ King Kong attractions. The first of their Kong rides, a disaster tour of New York City called King Kong Encounter, opened in 1986. It ran for over 20 years, before burning down in a backlot fire in 2008. Two years later, the park opened King Kong: 360 3-D, a re-imagined version that began on a backlot tram and brought riders to a soundstage designed to look like the jungle in Peter Jackson’s 2005 reboot.
