Skip the cooking, here's where to get Christmas dinner, breakfast in Newport

A good Christmas dinner is hard to beat, but finding a restaurant open on Christmas Day can be its own holiday miracle. Luckily, there are a few restaurants in Newport County opening their doors on Dec. 25 to hungry guests in need of a holiday meal without the cooking hassle.

Many Newport favorites are offering multi-course meals with some of the best ingredients while others will have their favorites ready to choose from its regular menu.

One Bellevue

This restaurant, tucked inside the historic Hotel Viking on Bellevue Avenue, is offering a prix-fixe upscale dining experience for reservations on Christmas Day in addition to an a la carte breakfast the same morning. The restaurant is also still accepting reservations for its Feast of the Seven Fishes on Christmas Eve, an Italian-American tradition developed to avoid consuming meat the day before Christmas, according to the restaurant’s website.

The Dining Room at Vanderbilt Hotel

Just a few blocks over on the corner of Mary and Spring streets, the Vanderbilt hotel is taking reservations for its Christmas Day “family-style” menu in its Gilded Age-style dining room. The prix-fixe lineup features a citrus-marinated chicken, Brussels sprouts and sticky toffee pudding.

Be merry: Christmas deserves a big piece of prime rib. These are the wines to pair it with.

Cara and The Café at the Chanler

Over on the Cliff Walk, overlooking Easton’s Beach, the Chanler houses two restaurants, both which are open on Christmas Day. Cara, the hotel’s star fine dining restaurant, is offering a four-course menu with three options per course, with festive selections such as braised venison cheeks and Mishima dry-aged Wagyu Ribeye.

The Cara’s more casual sister eatery, The Café at the Chanler, will serve items from its usual menu a la carte.

Johnny’s Restaurant at the Wyndham

Like Hotel Viking, Johnny’s is open for breakfast on Christmas Day, although it’s closing its doors at 11 a.m. and for the rest of the day.

Castle Hill

While Castle Hill’s table reservations are currently booked solid, the bar is open to walk-ins on Christmas Day. The dining room’s three course holiday dinner may not be available for bar patrons, but the bar will offer a casual dining menu.

Il Forno Italiano

For those hungry for Italian favorites and massive cheesecake desserts, this casual eatery on Lower Thames will be open on Christmas Day as well. While not a sit-down restaurant, pizza and pasta lovers can order their Christmas dinner for pick up or to-go.
