Skins star Kathryn Prescott is "incredibly lucky to be alive" after being hit by a cement truck, according to her twin sister.
The actor, who played Emily Fitch in the teen drama series alongside twin Megan, who played Katie Fitch, was apparently involved in a horrific accident while crossing the road in New York.
Megan shared the news with fans on Twitter and explained her battle to be allowed to travel to the US to help care for her twin.

She wrote: "I received the most terrifying phone call I’ve ever received in my life on Tuesday evening. My twin sister Kathryn was hit by a cement truck while crossing a road in New York on the 7th September.
"After fighting through complex surgery some of Kathryn's injuries include: broken pelvis in two places, both of her legs, her foot and her left hand. She is incredibly lucky to be alive. She narrowly avoided paralysis. The doctors are hopeful that she will make a full recovery but this will only be possible with the correct care right now."
Describing how Kathryn, 30, was alone in a hospital in New York with no family to rely on, she asked for her followers with help in trying to get to the US.

Megan wrote: "I will have to help her until she can start to walk again. I need to be there to help her with literally everything as she will be able to do incredibly little by herself."
Adding that she would need a long time in rehab and 24-hour care after leaving hospital, Megan wrote that she had applied to the US Embassy for permission to travel despite coronavirus restrictions, but was "devastated" to be turned down.

The actor, who added that she is double vaccinated and has a recent negative PCR test, asked if any of her followers had any ideas on how to appeal the decision and how she could be allowed to travel.
She said: "I don't know what to do with myself. I have to be able to get to my sister to care for her and right now I have no way of doing so."
Kathryn and Megan's parents in Skins were played by John Bishop and Ronni Ancona and Kathryn has since starred in films To The Bone and A Dog's Journey.
