Singer-Songwriter Jaden Hossler Says He 'Fell Apart' After Death of 'Best Friend' Cooper: 'Lost My Will to Live'

In a vulnerable TikTok post about his mental health, Jaden Hossler opened up about the devastating loss of his "soulmate" Cooper Noriega, who died at age 19 in 2022

Jaden Hossler is opening up about the hardest year of his life.

The singer-songwriter, 22, posted a lengthy video on TikTok Sunday to update his 9 million followers on his mental health, specifically how he coped with the death of his best friend, fellow TikToker Cooper Noriega, who died in June 2022.

“I’ve been through a lot of s--- this last year,” Hossler said as he began the nearly 9-minute video, in which he describes the emotional turmoil he’s faced for nearly two years. Many of the details he included he'd previously kept private.

He shared that he was “on a high” and “at the top of my life” after spending the spring of 2022 opening for his friend and collaborator Machine Gun Kelly. “Everything was f---ing vibing, dude. I wasn’t even really thinking about it, you know, I was just living, I was just enjoying myself. And I get off tour and then boom, my best friend dies.”

Hossler — who gained fame on TikTok in 2020 along with Bryce Hall, Noah Beck and Josh Richards as part of the all-boys content house in L.A., Sway House — said that he hasn’t publicly discussed Noriega’s death because he hasn’t “really known what to say.” He also admitted that he “got mad” when people commented on it, but has since realized “everybody deals with stuff in different ways.”

As for how he dealt with the tragic loss, the "Elevated Heartbreak" singer said he turned to alcohol and drugs to cope.

“I really fell into drugs and drinking,” he said, revealing his abuse of substances “hit an all-time high.”

“Honestly guys, I fell apart. I lost myself – it wasn’t just the drugs and the drinking. I lost my soulmate. Cooper was my soulmate. I loved him more than anybody.”

He added, "More and more time went by, and good things would happen... I was doing some cool things, but I just started to deteriorate. I lost my passion for music, I lost my passion for everything. I lost my will to live in a lot of instances."

In the video, Hossler also shared more about his June rehab stint, which he described on social media at the time as a “mental reset."

The decision to seek treatment came after a bad experience in the U.K. in May, he said, when he performed “the worst show” of his career.

“I hit a wall and I realized I was losing my mind,” Hossler continued. 

He shared that he was experiencing manic symptoms and “had complete loss of all control over my emotions,” so he went to a rehab facility in San Diego. While there, he also got sober.

“I went and I wasn’t planning to be sober, really I just needed help with my mental health, and so I got through and at the end I was like, ‘Wow, you know it’s so much easier to take care of your mental health when you’re sober,’ so I stuck with it.”

Now, the “Angels & Demons” singer said he’s in a much better place: “I’m much more healthy now than I have ever been – physically, and possibly mentally.”

Hossler also briefly discussed his relationship with Stassie Karanikolaou in the video as he said that during his period of emotional turmoil, he “got in an awesome relationship.”

The two were first linked in January when he joined Karanikolaou, 26, and her friends on a tropical getaway to Turks and Caicos, and became Instagram official with some PDA-filled photos shared in February.

Rumors of a split circulated in the spring, but the two were photographed together again by the summertime and have been going strong ever since.

In October, Hossler released “Chrome Hearted,” a song he’d long been teasing online, and Karanikolaou showed love for her beau in a sweet post on Instagram as she wrote, “my man my man my man!!!! i’m so proud of you 🤍.”

He commented on the tribute, “doesn’t get better than you.”
