Great a cappella might be music to the ears, but off-stage, things can be far less harmonious. That’s the lesson to be learned from Pop’s new reality series, Sing It On, which follows five different collegiate a cappella groups as they squabble, scheme and, occasionally, sing along the road to their hopefully first-place finish at the annual International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella. (Fun fact: Exec Producer John Legend is a former college a cappella singer.) It’s got all the swingin’ musical numbers and backstage drama as Glee, without Will Schuester’s goody-goody speeches.
In partnership with Pop, Yahoo TV is premiering Sing It On’s first episode in its entirety, which gives you the chance to sample the series and decide which squad of singers you’re going to be rooting for (or against). Will it be Florida State University’s all-female viral video phenomenon, the AcaBelles? Or how about the reigning champs, the Nor’easters from Northeastern University? No matter who you pledge allegiance to, they’re all gonna bring the noise. And maybe even a little funk.
Sing It On premieres May 13 at 10 p.m. on Pop.
