Sinéad O’Connor to Discuss Mental Illness on 'Dr. Phil'

“I am fed up of being defined as the crazy person”

Sinéad O’Connor is set to appear on “Dr. Phil.” She and Dr. Phil McGraw will discuss mental illness and the stigma surrounding it, according to a press release. In a preview for the episode, O’Connor says, “I am fed up of being defined as the crazy person.” During an appearance on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” last night, Dr. Phil explained that O’Connor called her and said, “I’m in trouble. I want to destigmatize mental illness. I clearly have a problem. Too many musicians are dying and I want to use my life to be a teaching tool.”

O’Connor’s “Dr. Phil” episode airs on Tuesday, September 12. Below, watch the episode preview, which features O’Connor singing her 1990 hit “Nothing Compares 2 U,” and scroll down for Dr. Phil’s “Kimmel” appearance.

In August, O’Connor made headlines when she posted a video of herself where she said she is “fighting to stay alive everyday.” After the video spread, Fiona Apple recorded a heartfelt response: “I want you to know that you are my hero,” she said. “You’ve given so much. And I wish I could be there. I wish I could be of some use to you.”
