EXCLUSIVE: Simon Rex (Red Rocket) is joining Rose Byrne, Octavia Spencer, Ariana DeBose, Dominic Sessa and Demi Lovato in Stephanie Laing’s Tow, which is currently in production.

Tow will tell the true story of Amanda Ogle, an unhoused Seattle woman who fought her way out of tow-company hell to reclaim her life and the car that held it all together after receiving a tow bill for $21,634. Ogle also serves as an executive producer.

The original screenplay is written by Jonathan Keasey, Brant Boivin, and Annie Weisman. The Exchange acquired international sales rights and CAA Media Finance will rep domestic.

Producers are Byrne, Laing, via her newly launched Cake or Death Pictures, Brent Stiefel and Justin Lothrop of Votiv Films and Brian O’Shea and Danyelle Foord of The Exchange. Executive producers include DeBose, Jonathan Keasey, Jonathan Tropper, Ogle, Josh Ricks, and Danny Gusman, Nat McCormick and Giovanna Trischitta of The Exchange, Kevin Eggers, and Lisa Wolofsky. Casting comes from Sherry Thomas at Bialy/Thomas.

Rex is busy. He will next be seen in Zoe Kravitz’s directorial debut Blink Twice for Amazon MGM Studios opposite Channing Tatum. He also stars opposite Sydney Sweeney, Paul Walter Hauser and Halsey in Lionsgate’s Americana, which made its world premiere at SXSW. He will also appear opposite Bryan Cranston and Allison Janney in Jon S. Baird’s Everything’s Going to Be Great for Lionsgate; as well as Lionsgate’s mystery feature Greedy People opposite Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Lily James; and Operation Taco Gary’s, which he produced and will lead a cast alongside Jason Biggs, Dustin Milligan, Brenda Song and Arturo Castro. He will soon start production on Nic Pizzolatto’s Easy Waltz opposite Vince Vaughn and Al Pacino.
