During the September 19 episode of “America’s Got Talent,” things got spicy at the judges’ table when Simon Cowell scolded the show’s producers on live television. It all started when Howie Mandel pressed Heidi Klum‘s red X during the vocal performance of “Who You Are” by Nashville singing duo Trailer Flowers. Being a live show, the actual button push wasn’t caught on camera, but when host Terry Crews came out to clarify what happened, the producers played a clip of Howie sneakily pressing Heidi’s red buzzer. Watch the “AGT” moment in the video above.

“I would not press my buzzer in the semi-finals,” Howie falsely declared, despite the proof being shown on camera. Of course, Howie was not being completely genuine because he had previously X’ed Phil Wright & Parent Jam, Sharpe Family Singers and Ray Wold & Mom during this season’s live shows, and received some flack for it online.

That enacted a bickering battle at the judges’ table where Heidi asked, “What is going on with you, Howie? There is an invisible line right here [between us]. This is your side, this is my side.” Heidi then conceded that Trailer Flowers’ performance did sound screechy at times, though she wasn’t sure how it sounded “at home.”

Sofia Vergara chimed in, “I think you guys sound very nice but … I kept waiting for Simon to ask for another song. There was something happening with this song that it didn’t resonate to me. Like, I didn’t know what was happening — the outfits, the song. It wasn’t my thing, and I love country music, by the way.”

It was then time for Simon to speak up, and he didn’t hold back about what he really thought of the button-pushing drama. “First of all, I don’t think the producers should have done what they just did, because we don’t have a lot of time to talk and actually give you something constructive,” he said. “So I apologize.” Simon told Trailer Flowers that he “didn’t love” the song, but he did “like you two.” He then claimed he would have told them to come up with a “better song” if it was during the audition phase.

Later, Terry handed the microphone over to Trailer Flowers, who declared, “I appreciate the judges. I really hope that America heard the lyric of that song: ‘Pull your boots back up, baby, when it’s tough.’ We love you. We love country music. We need America’s vote to make it to the finale.”

Competing against Trailer Flowers during the “Qualifiers 5” round were these 10 contestants: Golden Buzzer singer Gabriel Henrique, chorale group 82nd Airborne Chorus, dance group Avantgardey, mariachi singer Eduardo Antonio Trevino, dancer Eseniia Mikheeva, hula hoop artist/aerialist Grace Good, singer Lachune, comic magician Mandy Muden, acrobatic duo Ramadhani Brothers and magician Sangsoon Kim.

Remember, only two of the 11 acts will make it through to the grand finale based on America’s overnight votes. Will Trailer Flowers be one of them?
