According to The Hollywood Reporter, Prime Video has officially decided to exit Sony Pictures Television’s long-in-development Marvel series Silk: Spider Society.

This Prime Video cancellation comes after Amazon MGM Studios had just recently greenlit a Spider-Man Noir spin-off starring Nicolas Cage, based on the Oscar winner’s character from 2018’s Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. The outlet notes that Sony TV is currently planning to find a new home for the superhero project, which would have centered around Marvel hero Cindy Moon/ Silk.

Who was involved in Silk: Spider Society?

Silk: Spider-Society hailed from The Walking Dead executive producer Angela Kang, who has an eight-figure multi-year deal with Amazon MGM Studios. Kang was executive producing the live-action series alongside Amy Pascal, Phil Lord and Chris Miller. Sony Pictures Television has been developing the Spider-Man spin-off since 2020, with Amazon picking up the rights to the project two years ago.

“We can’t wait to bring the adventures of Cindy Moon to life, thanks to the creative dream team of Chris and Phil, Angela and Amy, along with our partners at Marvel and Amazon,” said the president of Sony Pictures Television Studios, Katherine Pope said when Amazon first ordered the series. “We know this exciting series with new and never-before-seen characters and storylines will wow audiences watching first on linear MGM+ and then around the world on Prime Video.”

Created by Dan Slott and Humberto Ramos, Silk made her debut in 2014’s The Amazing Spider-Man #1. In the comics, Cindy Moon is a Korean-American teenager who was bitten by the same radioactive spider as Peter Parker but had a vastly different life following the bite.
