Sigur Rós Announce Initial Lineup for Norður og Niður Holiday Arts Festival

Sigur Rós have announced the initial lineup for Norður og Niður—their inaugural holiday arts festival in Iceland. The list of performers includes Jarvis Cocker, Kevin Shields, Stars of the Lid, Julianna Barwick, and Dan Deacon, as well as Icelandic artists Sin Fang, Sóley & Örvar Smárason, JFDR, and Hugar. “We are beyond excited about Norður og Niður,” the band said in a press release. “Organizing your own festival is brilliant, you draw-up a fantasy league of all your favorite players, reach out to people, cross your fingers, and with a little bit of luck and good timing, get a wholly phenomenal squad of unbeatable talent all in one place at one time ready to make magic happen.”

Norður og Niður takes place from December 27-30 at Harpa in Reykjavík. The festival’s name translates to “go North and go down,” but more accurately means “everything’s going to hell.” During the event, Sigur Rós are scheduled to perform four shows at Eldborg, Harpa’s main hall.
