Sienna Miller Admits She Tried to Snag a 'Trolls' Role to Impress Her Daughter But Bombed the Audition

You win some, you lose some. But sometimes, you really want that win. Such was the case when Sienna Miller auditioned for Trolls after feeling pressure from her daughter to be in a kid-friendly movie — for once. On Monday night’s episode of Late Night with Seth Meyers, the actress admitted she still isn’t quite over her “embarrassingly” bad vocal audition for the wildly popular animated movie. And, from the sound of it, neither is her now-7-year-old daughter Marlowe.

Miller dropped by to chat with Meyers about her upcoming R-rated film 21 Bridges. When asked whether she’s done many movies Marlowe could watch, Miller fessed up, “None! And I really need to. She’s really on my case now.” That’s not to say Miller hasn’t tried at all, though. “You know, I did embarrassingly do a vocal audition for Trolls. And I was like, ‘Ooh, Trolls, I’m going to do something unique with the voice,” Miller shared, mimicking her comically bad voice creation.

When she ran that same voice by then-3-year-old Marlowe, the little girl thought it was amazing. “I was like, ‘I’ve crushed it.’ Sent it off and didn’t get it. But I’m sure that there will be a tape circulating around that studio of the ridiculous troll voice that I thought was appropriate,” Miller told Meyers, laughing. “Then I watched the movie and she just did kind of a great, normal voice. So, I was really off the mark. I wanted to be that troll.”

Despite that setback, Miller said she’s still on the hunt. “I need to voice something,” she insisted. “I do need to do something that isn’t R-rated.”

Fortunately, until that kid-friendly role comes along, Miller doesn’t have to worry too much about Marlowe’s reaction to the roles she is taking. At seven, she understands that what her mom does is make-believe. But it’s been a journey.

“At this point, she does because she’s never known anything else, but there are moments where it’s intense,” Miller shared. “Like, she’s been on sets. I did this one movie High Rise — it was really violent — and she’d visit and people had black eyes and were covered in blood. So, I said, ‘We had a ketchup fight!’ You know, you kind of come up with these things. She still calls [co-star] Luke Evans ‘Luke with the ketchup.’ But it was not ketchup.”

Okay, Hollywood… hook a working mama up! Miller needs a role that doesn’t require creative storytelling with condiments around her daughter.
