Sia Files For Legal Name Change To Match Husband

Sia might be known for being a little mysterious, but she’s not hiding her name anymore. On May 2, the singer filed to officially change her name from her birth name, Sia Kate Furler, to Sia Bernad.

The Australian singer’s legal documents state that the she wishes to change her last name to match her husband’s legal name. Last year, Sia, 48, married Dan Bernad in an intimate ceremony held at Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana's Villa Olivetta in Portofino, Italy. It’s the same venue that Kourtney Kardashian and Travis Barker were married at in 2022.

Sia Battled Depression Following First Divorce

Sia had previously been married to Erik Anders Lang from 2014 to 2016. She opened up in an interview with British music journalist Zane Lowe about the depression she battled following her divorce.

“After the host asked Sia about her creative process for the new project, the ‘We Are Born’ artist revealed that she had been sporadically writing ‘a song here or there for the last six, seven years.’ The mother-of-two explained further: ‘I got divorced, and that really threw me for a loop. That was such a dark time that I was like in bed for three years, uh really, really severely depressed. And so I couldn't really do anything for that period of time."

Sia Adopted Two Teens In 2019

In 2020, People reported that Sia confirmed that she’d adopted two 18 year-old boys who were aging out of the foster care system.

“I actually adopted two sons last year. They were both 18—they’re both 19 years old now. They were aging out of the foster care system. Yeah, and I love them."

Sia Becomes Grandmother At 44

Sia later revealed that one of her two sons had recently had two babies, making her a grandmother at age 44.

“My youngest son just had two babies. I’m a f------ grandma! I’m just immediately horrified.”

“Sia, who often hides her face to remain anonymous, added: ‘They call me Nana. I’m trying to get them to call me ‘Lovey’, like Kris (Jenner). I’m like, ‘Call me Lovey’.”

Sia Keeps Private Life Private

Sia has been known to keep her private life away from the public. Earlier in her career, she would often wear disguises and wigs to hide her face, although she has been seen without any facial coverings more recently.

She has only shared one photo of her new husband on her social media. Back in October of 2022, she shared a post with two photos: one of her solo and one of her with Bernad. She captioned the photos, “Pride forever! #lgbtqia+ #LAFC #22. also just finished my next album! A great day all round!”
