Shy 13-year-old channels Janis Joplin and gets the Golden Buzzer on 'AGT'

It was a pleasant surprise when 13-year-old Courtney Hadwin started singing on America's Got Talent Tuesday night. When she first hit the stage, the timid 13-year-old told the judges she was "a little bit nervous." Mel B tried to get Courtney to relax by saying, 'You're here for a reason, so go for it." And go for it she did! When the Black Crowes song, "Hard to Handle," began playing, the shy little girl, all of the sudden, looked like she was possessed by the spirit of Janis Joplin. Courtney danced around on stage, belting out the lyrics, while everyone in the audience was shocked by the young performer. After she was done rocking out, the judges were quick to shower Courtney with praise. Simon Cowell told her, "You were like this shy little thing when you first came out, and then you sing, and you're like a lion. I mean, genuinely incredible." Howie Mandel told Courtney a story about Clive Davis discovering Janis Joplin. "I'm not Clive Davis. I'm Howie Mandel, and I can't sign you to a record deal. The only thing I can do for you, young lady, is…" Howie said as he hit the Golden Buzzer. Courtney was overwhelmed as gold confetti rained down around her and her dad ran out from backstage to give her a big hug. I was a great feel-good moment for everyone, especially Courtney, who now goes straight to the live shows.America’s Got Talent airs Tuesdays at 8 p.m. on NBC.
