Showtime today dropped the official trailer for its forthcoming eight-episode limited series drama “Fellow Travelers,” a period love story and political thriller starring Matt Bomer (a 2014 Emmy nominee for “The Normal Heart”) and Jonathan Bailey (“Bridgerton”) and created by Ron Nyswaner (a 1994 Oscar nominee for his “Philadelphia” screenplay). It premieres October 27 on streaming and on demand for all Showtime and Paramount+ with Showtime subscribers before making its on-air debut October 29 on Showtime. It also stars Jelani Alladin, Allison Williams and Noah J. RickettsSee the new trailer above.

Based on the novel by Thomas Mallon, “Fellow Travelers” stars Bomer as Hawkins Fuller, a behind-the-scenes political operative whose life is uncomplicated until he meets Tim Laughlin (Bailey), a young man “brimming with idealism and religious faith.” They begin a romance just as Joseph McCarthy and Roy Cohn have declared war in the 1950s on “subversives and sexual deviants,” initiating one of the darkest periods in 20th century American history. “Over the course of four decades, the five main characters cross paths through the Vietnam War protests of the 1960s, the drug-fueled disco hedonism of the 1970s and and AIDS crisis of the 1980s while facing obstacles in the world and within themselves.”
