Showtime at the Apollo to Return With Steve Harvey-Hosted Special on Fox
Get ready to laugh, boo and fall out of your seat: Fox is reviving the classic TV talent show Showtime at the Apollo for a two-hour special event, hosted by Steve Harvey.
The special, airing Dec. 5 at 8/7c, will feature musical and comedy performances from huge stars, the network announced Wednesday. Plus, it’ll feature a new take on Apollo‘s famed “Amateur Night,” with up-and-coming artists performing in front of the notoriously fickle Apollo crowd. (Those who don’t quickly win over the crowd risk getting booed off the stage.)

The original Showtime at the Apollo ran in syndication for more than twenty years, and the theater’s “Amateur Night” was a launching pad for legendary stars like James Brown, Stevie Wonder and the Jackson Five. Even Steve Harvey, who hosted the show from 1993 to 2000, got his start performing at the hallowed venue.
“I’m excited to be going back home to the Apollo to celebrate the history of this great theater,” Harvey said in a statement. “I have great memories from my time there, and this is going to be a homecoming party that you won’t want to miss.”
And Fox’s trip to the Apollo won’t just be a one-night-only engagement: A second special is already planned for early 2017.
