Shooting on Nipsey Hussle Procession Route Leaves 1 Dead and Several Injured

The celebration of Nipsey Hussle's life ended in tragedy on Thursday.

Chief Michel Moore of the Los Angeles Police Department tweeted following a procession for the late rapper that a drive-by shooting left one person dead and several others injured.

"In the midst of this procession we have a multi-four shooting at 103 Street and Main Street," he wrote, adding that the victims were three black males and one black female, ages ranging from 30 to 50 years old. "Tragically one is deceased. Suspects in a gray Hyundai fired on the victims."

Moore concluded his message by pleading, "We must stop this senseless violence."

The shooting occurred just hours after a memorial service was held for Hussle at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. The tribute to the rapper included a performance by Stevie Wonder and a reading of a letter from former president Barack Obama. Hussle's longtime girlfriend, Lauren London, also tearfully honored him.

Hussle, whose real name is Ermias Asghedom, was fatally shot on March 31 outside his clothing store in South Los Angeles. He was 33.

The rapper is survived by London, a 34-year-old model and actress whom Hussle had been dating since 2013. The couple shared 2-year-old son Kross together, and he also had a 7-year-old daughter named Emani from a previous relationship.
