EXCLUSIVE: Oscar nominated and Emmy winning actress Shohreh Aghdashloo (House Of Sand And Fog, House Of Saddam) has joined the third installment in the Star Trek series, Star Trek Beyond, which stars Chris Pine as Captain Kirk. Also in the cast are Idris Elba and Simon Pegg (credited as one of the film’s many writers).

The film, which we hear is undergoing some reshoots next week with Aghdashloo playing the role of the High Command of the Federation, is being directed by Justin Lin. J.J. Abrams is producing. However, the film is still on track to be released this summer, on July 22, from Paramount.

Aghdashloo, the first Iranian woman to win an Emmy in 2009 and also appeared on 24, is also currently prepping for the Syfy series The Expanse which is set to begin production for a second season next month in Toronto; she plays a powerful politician in the series.

She is repped by CAA and Tamara Houston at Roundtable Entertainment in the states and by Roger Charteris at The Artists Partnership in the UK.
