Shocking Death of Principal Character in ‘Arrow’

Episode “Eleven-Fifty-Nine” of Arrow was not your run-of-the-mill episode; in fact, Green Arrow actor Stephen Amell tweeted, “Toughest episode we ever shot.” He said that because Laurel Lance, a character who has been with the show since its inception, was killed off.

Supervillain Damien Darhk regained his powers while in prison, and when Laurel and the gang went to fight him, he quickly overpowered them. Darhk had warned that he would kill Laurel at some point, and he made good on that by saying: “I want you to give your daddy a message for me. I want you to tell him I’m a man of my word.” Darhk then took one of the Green Arrow’s arrows and jammed it into Laurel’s rib cage.

Laurel was Oliver’s original girlfriend, so the loss was very hard on the character. To make matters even more heart-wrenching, Laurel’s last words to Oliver were “Ollie, I know that I am not the love of your life, but you will always be the love of mine.” She then went into cardiac arrest and was pronounced dead at 11:59 p.m.

Arrow airs Wednesdays at 8 p.m. on CW.
