Shia LaBeouf's Newest Run-In With the Law

The same day that President Trump was inaugurated, Shia LaBeouf launched a protest art exhibit against him called “He Will Not Divide Us.” The participatory exhibit is located in New York City and is being live-streamed online; it will run during Trump’s entire presidency.

The installation has drawn massive crowds, including Jaden Smith. However, not all of the participants attending the exhibit have the same views. On Jan. 26, Shia was arrested on charges of misdemeanor assault and harassment after allegedly getting into a confrontation with someone who had a different view.

This wasn’t Shia’s first arrest. He says that in 2015 he was arrested for public intoxication in Austin, Texas. He called a police office a “silly man” over and over. The previous year, Shia says, he was arrested for heckling the cast of Cabaret; he spent about 25 hours behind bars and spat at police officers. He admitted, ”While [behind bars], I did have a terrific egg sandwich.”

Before that, he says, he was arrested at a Walgreens in Chicago for being drunk and refusing to leave the store. According to Shia, when he was 20, he spent two nights in jail for trying to stab his neighbor, and when he was 11, he was arrested for stealing a Gameboy Pokémon from Kmart. The first time he was arrested was at 9 years old, for stealing a pair of Nikes from a local shop.
