Sheryl Lee Ralph Leads Disney Entertainment Television’s Giving Flowers Campaign for Black History Month (EXCLUSIVE)

Sheryl Lee Ralph fronts Disney Entertainment Television’s new Black History Month campaign.

Variety has the exclusive first look at the launch of the Giving Flowers initiative, a video spot featuring Ralph, Chandra Wilson, Glynn Turman, Emayatzy Corinealdi and Prentice Penny.

“Flowers never truly die,” Ralph says in the video. “They are as strong as the stories we tell. You may clip them but they will grow again. We are forever in bloom.”

The tag at the end of the video reads, “Celebrate Black Stories.” An expanded 30-second spot will debut later this month.

The campaign is intended to highlight Disney’s Black History Month television programming, which includes “Abbott Elementary” Season 3, premiering Feb. 7 on ABC and streaming the next day on Hulu. The two-episode premiere of the Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X series, “Genius: MLK/X,” takes place on National Geographic on Feb. 1 along with a special simulcast on ABC. The episodes will be available to stream the next day on Disney+ and Hulu.

The Soul of a Nation docu-special “X/onerated: The Murder of Malcolm X and 55 Years to Justice” will air on ABC News and Hulu on Feb. 1. “Love & WWE: Bianca & Montez,” following the lives of married WWE stars Bianca Belair and Montez Ford, streams on Hulu on Feb. 2. Season 2 of Marvel’s “Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur” drops on the Disney Channel on Feb. 2 and Disney+ on Feb. 3.

“Our America: In the Black,” a documentary about Microsoft Philanthropies’ Darrell Booker’s efforts to build financial health and wellness in the Black community, will debut on Feb. 3 and stream across ABC Owned Television Stations’ platforms and Hulu’s Black Stories Always hub.

“The Space Race,” which tells the stories of the first Black pilots, engineers, scientists and astronauts, premieres Feb. 12 on National Geographic. Andscape’s new documentary feature “Sacred Soil: The Piney Woods School Story” about America’s oldest Black boarding schools streams Feb. 23 on Hulu.

As part of Hulu’s “Black Stories Always” campaign, FX’s “Snowfall,” Andscape’s “Cypher,” Onyx Collective’s “Reasonable Doubt,” “The 1619 Project,” “The Bernie Mac Show,” “My Wife and Kids,” “The Wonder Years” (2021) and “Soul Food,” “Family Matters,” “Sister, Sister,” “Black-ish” and “12 Years A Slave” are available through the Black Stories Always hub.
