Phillips started Sheboogie to share jazz in the community by hosting events, telling history and bringing musicians together. He was inspired by MJI to create Sheboogie, the release said.

“It’s truly rewarding to see that Milwaukee Jazz Institute has inspired George and that he is making a positive impact on his community with this music,” Davis said.Have a story tip or public interest concern? Contact Sam Bailey at sgbailey@gannett.com or 573-256-9937.
