Sheboygan’s Holiday Parade, a live nativity and more to start the season in this week’s weekly dose

SHEBOYGAN — From the 31st annual Sheboygan Jaycees Holiday Parade (stepping off at 5 p.m. Nov. 26 downtown) to a series of events at Blue Harbor Resort, a live nativity in Howards Grove and A Visit with St. Nicholas, plenty of events offer holiday cheer in coming weeks.

First, a note for Thanksgiving week. Curbside garbage and recycling collection in Sheboygan will be adjusted slightly because of the Thanksgiving holiday. No collection will be done on Thanksgiving, Nov. 23, so collection will go as follows: Monday-Wednesday collection will be made as normal (Nov. 20-22) while Thursday (Nov. 23) collection will be made Friday, Nov. 24, and Friday collection will be made Saturday, Nov. 25. The Recycling Center at 2026 New Jersey Ave. will also be closed on Thanksgiving but open regular hours of 8 a.m.-6 p.m. Nov. 20-22 and Nov. 24 and 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Nov. 25.

Blue Harbor Resort offers full season of holiday events, from Thanksgiving to New Year’s

Blue Harbor Resort has announced its lineup of holiday special events from Thanksgiving through New Year’s Eve in Sheboygan. Here's what's planned:

  • Thanksgiving buffet: The resort will kick off the holiday season with a Thanksgiving buffet dinner in The Beacon Restaurant from 3 to 8 p.m. Nov. 23. The menu includes slow-roasted turkey and glazed ham as well as maple-glazed sweet potatoes with toasted pecans, roasted garlic mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, honey-glazed carrots, sweet corn on the cob, sage stuffing, a salad bar and seasonal desserts. The buffet is $40 for adults, $15 for children 14 and younger, and kids younger than 3 eat free.

  • Breakfast with Santa: A traditional seasonal favorite, Breakfast with Santa, will run Saturdays Nov. 25-Dec. 23 from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. Guests can have a breakfast buffet and visits with Santa. The price is $20 for adults, $10 for children 14 and younger, and kids younger than 3 eat free. Kids’ crafts like coloring a Christmas ornament will be available 9 to 11 a.m. in the lobby for an additional fee and the lobby will be decked out in holiday cheer, perfect for a family photo. Guests can make resort reservations to include a discounted rate for Breakfast with Santa by using promo code BKFSANTA when booking. Package rates start at $279.99 for two adults and two children.

  • Run, Santa, Run Sheboygan 5K: At 9 a.m. Dec. 2, the inaugural Run, Santa, Run Sheboygan 5K will take off from Blue Harbor Resort. Participants are encouraged to dress up as Santa, elves and penguins to spread holiday cheer throughout Sheboygan. While the event is not timed, the first 25 runners to beat the Grinch will get an award. Adult racers who register in November will pay $35 and children 12 and younger will pay $30. Participants will receive a long-sleeve T-shirt, character hat and accessories, free digital race photos, one free beverage token for the post-race party at Blue Harbor Resort, and snacks throughout the race. This is a festive run/walk for all abilities. Guests wanting to make a weekend of the event can use promo code SANTA for 20% off an overnight stay at Blue Harbor Resort.

  • Christmas meals: Celebrate on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day with a special holiday menu in The Beacon Restaurant from 5 to 9 p.m. The menu will feature potato leek soup, parsnip goat cheese tart, mixed green salad with orange segments, vanilla-scented pistachios and pomegranate vinaigrette, as well as honey-glazed roasted duck with wild rice pilaf, seasonal vegetable and bourbon cherry jus.

  • New Year's Eve Party: Ring in the New Year at Blue Harbor Resort’s family-friendly New Year’s Eve Party featuring DJ music by Dan from Boogie Time Entertainment for dancing in the new year in the Grand Ballroom from 8:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. Tickets include appetizers, party favors and champagne toast to help Blue Harbor ring in its 20th anniversary year. Tickets are $45 for adults and $20 for children. To book a stay to include the New Year’s Eve Party, guests can use promo code NYE. Package rates start at $443.99 for two adults and two children.

  • New Year's Eve dinner: The Beacon Restaurant will also offer a three-course New Year’s Eve dinner from 5 to 10 p.m. The menu includes lobster bisque, strawberry and fried goat cheese salad, and smoked tenderloin and crab oscar.

Blue Harbor Resort is offering a 20% discount on reservations booked by Dec. 31 for stays through June 6, 2024, with promo code TWENTY. This offer does not apply to existing reservations, packages or other discounted events.

Reservations are recommended for all holiday food and beverage events by calling 920-457-9810. Complimentary parking is available in the lot and local guests are encouraged to use entrance No. 2 or No. 3 and take the elevator to the second-floor main lobby. Prices do not include beverages, taxes or gratuity.

Live nativity Dec. 1-3 at Howards Grove church

St. Paul’s Lutheran Church & School, 441 Millersville Ave., Howards Grove, will feature a live nativity in early December.

The nativity will be on view 6-9 p.m. Dec. 1-2 and 4-7 p.m. Dec. 3.

A Visit with St. Nicholas Dec. 5 at HSHS St. Nicholas Hospital

HSHS St. Nicholas Hospital invites the community to attend A Visit with St. Nicholas, an event embracing the traditional spirit of Christmas and celebrating the hospital’s patron saint who was a friend to all children.

The event will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Dec. 5 on the hospital’s campus, 3100 Superior Ave., Sheboygan, outside near the Chapel entrance.

Schedule includes: 5-6:30 p.m., meet and take photos with St. Nicholas and his reindeer; 5:45-6:30 p.m., Listen to the songs of the season performed by Catholic North Youth Choir and St. Dominic’s Adult Choir; and 6:30-7 p.m., listen to a scripture reading of the Christmas story.

Hot cocoa and cookies will be served, and the first 200 children in attendance will receive a goodie bag.

A donation is not required to attend, however, in the spirit of St. Nicholas and the Christmas season, attendees are invited to take new winter hats and mittens for those in need.

‘A Wade House Christmas’ Dec. 9-10 in Greenbush

Wade House historic site in Greenbush will host “A Wade House Christmas,” a mid-19th century Christmas celebration, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dec. 9 and 10.

Yankee and German holiday traditions, including period crafts and games for young and old, and horse-drawn wagon rides, will make for a memorable experience.

Guests to “A Wade House Christmas” will experience the sights and sounds of an 1860s Wisconsin Christmas celebration. The Wade House stagecoach hotel will be decorated in traditional Christmas splendor with fresh evergreen garlands and a candlelit Christmas tree as focal points.

Activities will abound on each level of the 27-room hotel. The experience will begin on the first floor. Costumed staff will greet visitors inside the historic tap room and shed light on the origins of Santa Claus and his gift-giving tradition. The ladies’ parlor will be graced with a freshly cut Christmas tree adorned in 1860s fashion, and the space will resound with period music.

In the hotel’s dining room, visitors will create holiday crafts once featured in “Godey’s Lady’s Book.” In the third-floor ballroom, participants can play parlor games.

The aroma of mulled cider and plum pudding will waft out from the hotel’s 19th-century kitchens and entice guests to these culinary spaces, where they’ll learn about the longstanding association of plum pudding with the Christmas season.

The festivities continue in the Wade House Visitor Center and Wesley W. Jung Carriage Museum, where seasonal décor, live music and children’s activities will help to spread holiday cheer. On both days, Amish baked cookies, pies and Christmas candies will be available for sale at the visitor center.

“A Wade House Christmas” will take place at the Wade House Historic Site in Greenbush. Visitors will begin the special experience at the Wade House Visitor Center and Wesley W. Jung Carriage Museum at W7965 State 23. Admission is $15 for adults and teens, $13 for ages 65 and older, $8 for ages 5-12, and free for kids younger than 5.
