Shawn Mendes 'Excited to Share' Upcoming Album as He Announces Brazil Performance: 'Can’t Wait to Play’

There's nothing holding Shawn Mendes back from launching into his next era.

On Friday, the "In My Blood" singer-songwriter teased his upcoming fifth studio album as he was unveiled as a headliner for the 2024 Rock in Rio festival in Brazil.

"It’s been a really long time since I last played live and I’m so excited to share that I’ll be headlining Rock In Rio on Sept 22nd," wrote Mendes, 25, on social media. "I’ve missed being on stage and seeing you all in person so much!"

More than three years after the release of his last album Wonder in 2020, the Grammy-nominated artist then teased his next body of work.

"I’ve also been working on a new album and I can’t wait to play these new songs live for you," Mendes told fans. "See you there. eu te amo!!!!"

The "Señorita" star will serve as the headliner for the final day of Rock in Rio 2024, which runs from Sept. 13-22 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Other top-billed artists at this year's iteration of the festival include Katy Perry, Imagine Dragons, Ed Sheeran and Travis Scott.

Mendes recently made waves with his appearance at the Loewe show during Paris Fashion Week on March 1. Later that day, he delivered a surprise performance of "Treat You Better" alongside Niall Horan at the One Direction alum's The Show: Live on Tour stop at OVO Arena Wembley in London.

"Thank you to the wonderful @shawnmendes for joining me on stage last night," wrote Horan, 30, on social media following the concert.

In January, Mendes took to social media to share a video of himself freely singing along to a harmonium and opened up about his growth over the past year in the post's caption.

"Over the last year i spent a lot of time singing like this.. I found that in moments of extreme anxiety or fear if i sat down with my harmonium and allowed myself with full trust to sing whatever came out it would often ease the pain," he wrote.

The "Stitches" performer continued, "it felt so difficult at first to let myself sing without needing perfection but after a while i actually started to fall in love with the dance between the 'right' and the 'wrong' notes … i realized there were only moments of bliss and euphoria from the 'right' notes BECAUSE of the 'wrong' notes. The only reason i can sing in key is because i’ve learned to listen."

Mendes added that his main lesson learned in 2023 was "to accept and welcome the lows of life."

"Not to constantly need to change or fix something in order to feel high again, because i know if i really slow down and listen when i’m low there’s always something to hear," he concluded.
