Shawn Mendes Apologizes for Ducking 'Señorita' Question: 'Sorry If That Upset Anyone'

Shawn Mendes apologized to his fans on Sunday morning after he seemingly bailed on a question about his song with Camila Cabello during a Q&A with fans.

The event took place on Saturday in Tampa during a stop on his tour. A fan asked the singer, "What inspired me to write 'Señorita?'"

Mendes repeated back the question before he stood up and said, "I love you guys, have a great time!" He then blew the audience a kiss, waved, and left.

Fans of Mendes did not think kindly of the move. One fan tweeted, "I love Shawn but the fact he's dodging questions about his damn music it's rude and annoyingHe's becoming childish and acting like a divaAnd then can he put himself in that fan's shoes? Imagine you're asking a question and someone just leaves and ignores you, not cute."

Another wrote, "that was a perfectly normal question, if he was implying that it’s about his relationship with camila, the song in his words was written 11 months ago?? when camila was in a relationship? if that’s what he was implying? he kinda played himself?"

Another fan tweet, which eventually prompted Mendes to respond, read, "imagine telling your fans for three years that our relationship is all about being real&then have the audacity to walk out when getting asked a 200$ question about your music.'im not ready to talk about it' would solve the issue but he rather gets the promo & keeps us guessing."

Mendes tried to explain the situation on Sunday morning, tweeting, "Hey! There was no bad intention here."

He continued, "If you were there you would have known it was the last question & that’s why I decided to turn it into a light hearted funny goodbye! Sorry if that upset anyone, I adore you guys! No need for any negativity ❤️"

Mendes then added, "I love you guys!!!"

Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello released their song "Señorita" last month. It was their second collaboration together after 2015's "I Know What You Did Last Summer."

The duo has not commented publicly about their relationship but Cabello split from her boyfriend, Matthew Hussey, not long after the song was released.
