Macklemore has pulled out of Shaun King’s “Hope During Times Of Genocide” tour. Earlier this week, photos and videos were circulating on the internet of King and his wife speaking in what is reportedly Arabic dialect. The footage also showed the couple sitting with a religious figure as they donned traditional Muslim attire, leading some to speculate that he might have converted to Islam.

This has seemingly been confirmed by followers of King and would explain his latest alleged scheme for financial gain. Shortly after, a flyer circulated about the event which was described as “an inspiring, informative and spiritual experience this Ramadan” featuring stories about “leadership and modern experiences with censorship online and off.” The tour is just four stops and Macklemore was scheduled to appear at the final one March 24 in San Diego.

He also appeared in the center of the original flyer. However, Macklemore has ultimately declined to be a part of the event following online criticism. “Just to be transparent...I pulled out of this earlier in the week. A dear friend was putting on the fundraiser. All proceeds to my understanding were going to families in Palestine,” the artist wrote. “I never felt comfortable with the centering or the flyer. Lesson learned moving forward.”

Over the years, King has been accused of not being Black, of being a government operative, of stealing the work of Black women and of being a con artist who starts multiple activism ventures that never are completed. The most shocking allegation is that King is a thief who benefits financially from the fundraisers he promotes and participates in.

In 2022, the Daily Beast ran a lengthy piece that examined the financials of the nonprofit organizations and political action committees that King helmed. Recently, King has been sharing social media posts that highlighted the destruction that has been happening in Gaza and called for a ceasefire.

He also said that he worked with Hamas for the release of two American hostages: Natalie Raanan and Judith Tai Raanan. However, the Raanan family said King was never involved and to not believe what he said. His tour announcement is shady as hell and speaks to his pattern of exploiting marginalized communities to make a quick buck.
