All About Shawn Johnson and Andrew East's 3 Kids

The retired gymnast and former NFL star are parents to Drew Hazel, Jett James and Barrett Madison

Shawn Johnson and Andrew East are accomplished former athletes, and they’re also parents to three kids — Drew, Jett and Barrett.

Their paths crossed when the gold medal-winning gymnast retired in 2012, and she met her now-husband shortly after. Fast forward, Shawn and Andrew got married in 2016 in Tennessee. Following their nuptials, Shawn suffered a miscarriage just two days after finding out she was expecting in 2017. The couple shared an emotional YouTube video talking about the experience.

“The past 48 hours have been some of the happiest, scariest, and saddest times of my life,” she wrote in the video's description. “My husband Andrew and I found out that we were unexpectedly pregnant, only to find out hours later some tragic news. I have been crying more than I ever have, but am still optimistic for what is next.”

In 2019, Shawn and Andrew welcomed their first child, a daughter named Drew Hazel. The couple then celebrated the arrival of their son, Jett James, in 2021. Most recently, they welcomed their third child, a baby boy named Barrett Madison in December 2023.

"Our baby boy has finally arrived, and we couldn't be more thrilled," Shawn and Andrew told PEOPLE in a statement. "Both baby and mom are doing great, and we are counting our blessings!"

Drew Hazel East, 4

The couple announced they were pregnant in April 2019 in a YouTube video. “@theeastbaby ... we cannot WAIT to welcome you to the world and shower you with love. @andrewdeast WE DID IT!” Shawn wrote alongside a photo of her and Andrew pointing at her belly on Instagram.

Six months later, Drew Hazel was born on Oct. 29, 2019, weighing in at 8 lbs., 8 oz. and measuring 20.5 inches long. According to Shawn's Instagram post sharing the news, Drew's name is a nod to Andrew. “Named after the most incredible person I know ... her daddy,” she captioned an Instagram picture of them kissing Drew.

Throughout the years, the couple have shared her milestones and other sweet moments — from meeting her icon, Blippi, to becoming a big sister. Nicknamed “Roo,” Drew is “definitely daddy's girl through and through,” Shawn wrote on Instagram in 2020.

Another highlight was the full-circle moment when Shawn took her family to meet her longtime former gymnastics coach, Liang Chow, in 2022. During their visit, Drew showed signs that she might be into her mom’s sport and took a particular interest in the trampoline.

"The fun part, once she started warming up, she was just running, zig-zagging all over the gym," Shawn said in a different YouTube video. "She was like 'Mama, beam.' 'Mama, bars.' 'Mama, trampoline.' 'Mama, vault.' "

Jett James East, 2

Shawn shared the news about baby No. 2 on Instagram with four words, “Here we go again.” The January 2021 announcement included photos of her bump and Drew holding a tiny pair of sneakers.

On July 19, 2021, Shawn and Andrew's son Jett James East was born. “We are so happy to welcome our little man into the world,” they said in an exclusive statement to PEOPLE. “We are loving life as a family of four and soaking up every minute."

A few days later, they provided more details about their second baby on their YouTube channel. Jett measured 21 inches long and weighed 9 lbs., 13 oz., and Shawn also opened up about his name on Instagram. Jett James combines her great-great-great grandmother’s and her husband’s brother’s names.

These days, Jett is on the move — especially when it’s less than convenient for his parents. In October 2023, Andrew shared a video showing Jett escaping from his pack-and-play in the middle of the night. “He wasn’t even 2 when he did this. all hands on deck w this guy,” the former NFL star quipped in the Instagram caption.

In fact, Jett and Drew have started working together to learn about babyproofing, as seen in an Instagram video of the brother and sister duo figuring out how to undo safety locks. “Plz help,” Andrew wrote.

Barrett Madison East

During a family trip to Greece in July 2023, Shawn posted several bump photos on Instagram to announce that she was pregnant.

According to her, Drew and Jett were looking forward to having another sibling. "Drew is very, very excited and she talks about it daily or kisses my belly daily or something. It's adorable," she told PEOPLE.

Shawn and Andrew announced the news that their third baby had been born via cesarian section in December 2023.

"The third time around feels so surreal because even though we've done this twice before, there's still so much nervousness and excitement around the days leading up to the birth and then so much magic once you get to hold your sweet baby in your arms for the first time," Shawn said when she announced the baby's birth in her FamilyMade newsletter.

Andrew added, "My dad was born on December 9 and passed away unexpectedly on December 27 of last year, so December is a really impactful month for us. Having our baby born so close to my dad's birthday feels really special and I know he would be smiling down and so proud of us."

Shawn and Andrew chose to keep their baby's sex and name private after his arrival and announced the details while sharing new photos on Instagram that included their family's newest member. "Barrett 'Bear' Madison East," Shawn wrote in the caption. "We've all been waiting for you."
