Shatila Bakery and Cafe, well known for authentic Middle Eastern pastries, cookies and plenty of other sweets and baked goods, has opened a new location. A Shatila Bakery and Cafe is now open on Ford Road in Dearborn Heights. It's the third Shatila Bakery and Cafe in metro Detroit.

Expect many of the traditional offerings from Shatila, plus newer, modern items in a cafe-style setting, said Batoul Shatila. The bakery's Dearborn Heights location at 26671 Ford Road will offer its traditional array of Lebanese and Palestinian desserts and pastries, baklava and specialties, such as knafeh.

Batoul Shatila, an owner, along with sisters Nada Shatila and Tania Shatila-Bazzi and mother, Zeinat Shatila, said the new cafe's more modern items include Oreo or Biscoff baklava, Turkish and Syrian desserts. There will be café-style drinks such as lattes and cappuccinos, Turkish coffees, some Lebanese breakfast items, croissants, spinach, meat or cheese pies. There's also homemade ice cream and smoothies.Inside the cafe is mainly booth seating amid palm trees.

The Dearborn-based Shatila was founded by Riad Shatila more than 40 years ago. Over the years, the business grew from a small bakery operation to a large location and a separate manufacturing and shipping center. The Shatila Bakery and Café retail bakery location is on West Warren in Dearborn. There's also a location on Maple Road in West Bloomfield. Today, Shatila ships its products nationwide and globally, according to its website.
