Sharon Stone Got Kicked Off of Bumble Because Users Were Convinced Her Profile Was Fake

Heads up, online daters! If you come across a celebrity profile and think it’s too good to be true, think twice. Bumble bounced Sharon Stone from the dating app after users reported her dating profile to be fake — only, it was the real deal. The Golden-Globe-winning actress had to publicly point out that she’d been shut out of “the hive” before being allowed back in.

Stone took to Twitter on Sunday night to call out the dating app for freezing her out. “I went on the @bumble dating sight [sic] and they closed my account,” she tweeted, explaining, “Some users reported that it couldn’t possibly be me! Hey @bumble, is being me exclusionary? Don’t shut me out of the hive.” She then shared a snapshot of the message she received upon logging in: “You’ve been blocked. We’re committed to keeping Bumble safe, which means we have to enforce certain rules when our values are violated. Your account has been blocked because we’ve received several reports about your profile being fake.”

Um, Bumble, your basic instinct was clearly off-base in this situation. But all’s well that ends well, and in this case “well” means Stone’s ability to swipe right was soon restored.

Bumble rep Clare O’Connor commented on Stone’s tweet to let her know the team was working to remedy the situation. “Oh no, @sharonstone! @Bumble editorial director here. We’re on the case. Trust us, we *definitely* want you in the Hive. We’ll get back to you ASAP,” O’Connor promised. And she did, shortly after writing, “AHA! @sharonstone, we at @bumble found your account, unblocked you, and ensured this won’t happen again. You can get back to Bumbling! Thanks for earing with us and hope you find your honey.”

The official Bumble account recognized the situation as an opportunity to generate a little more buzz (see what we did there?). “There can only be one Stone. Looks like our users thought you were too good to be true,” the Bumble account tweeted. “We’ve made sure that you won’t be blocked again. We hope everyone in our community takes a sec to verify their profiles.”

The account then added a nod to Stone’s iconic 1992 role, joking, “Catherine Tramell from Basic Instinct gets a pass today!”
