Shannon Sharpe laughed off a makeup-related blunder during his appearance on ESPN's First Take this week.

As Sharpe, 55, debated the latest in sports news with host Stephen A. Smith, viewers noticed his makeup was a bit more overstated than his usual look on the show, and the internet enjoyed poking fun at the analyst's new appearance.

One user on X (formerly Twitter) joked that Sharpe looked like he had "funeral makeup" on, while another user said he looked like "a mean lunch lady" on the social network.

Sharpe, who recently departed his years-long gig at FS1 for Undisputed alongside Skip Bayless, took to X to address "concern" over his viral makeover, and explained he had a new makeup artist that day.

"Appreciate the concern over my makeup this morning on @FirstTake. This was her 1st time doing my makeup and it was a little heavy," Sharpe wrote. "My appearance is important not as important as my takes. Hopefully, the takes were gr8 as usual. #LipSparringChamp #BestDressed #Espn"

A reply in the comments to Sharpe's post said the makeup artist was likely "finished" in the job after the mishap, but Sharpe defended the unidentified woman. "No she isn’t. She’ll get better with my makeup. Isn’t the end of the world," he wrote.

When one user told Sharpe he looked like fictional transgender basketball player Juwanna Mann from the 2002 movie of the same name, the ESPN analyst rebuked, "I'll live and still extremely blessed."

Another reply from Sharpe addressed why he pays attention to online trolls mocking his appearance. "I appreciate them watching and supporting me," Sharpe wrote on X.

Sharpe departed FS1's Undisputed in June after nearly seven years of hosting the sports talk show alongside Skip Bayless. He now appears regularly on First Take to discuss the latest in sports news while Bayless, 71, continues to host the long-running series alongside a new rotation of analysts, including rapper Lil Wayne.

Through the years, Sharpe and Bayless often had different takes on sports stories.

Sharpe notably took issue with a tweet Bayless wrote about Damar Hamlin, following the Buffalo Bills safety’s cardiac arrest during a game in January.

"No doubt the NFL is considering postponing the rest of this game — but how?" Bayless wrote at the time. "This late in the season, a game of this magnitude is crucial to the regular-season outcome … which suddenly seems so irrelevant."

Sharpe did not appear on the show the following morning, and delivered a monologue — which Bayless interrupted — to air his grievances about his former co-host's tweet. During the tense exchange, Bayless insisted that none of the network executives had been upset by his social media comments.
