‘Shallow Hal’ Actor Joshua Shintani Dead At 32

Joshua Shintani, known for his ukulele performance in the 2001 movie Shallow Hal, has died. His mother told TMZ that Shintani died Wednesday of pneumonia in his native Hawaii. He was 32.

Shintani was discovered by Shallow Hal‘s co-director Peter Farrelly as Shintani strummed his ukelele outside a library in Hawaii. Farrelly immediately cast him in the film starring Gywneth Paltrow and Jack Black. Shintani went on to become a local legend following his performance of “Never Forget Where I’m From” in the film. It turned out to be the only role of his career. Here’s a clip of Shintani in Shallow Hal.
