Shakira Explains Why She'll Never Get Married
Ahead of her performance at the Super Bowl halftime show with Jennifer Lopez, Shakira gave an interview with "60 Minutes" last night. During the interview, Shakira opened up about a wide number of topics, including why she doesn't ever see herself getting married.
The pop star has been dating soccer star Gerard Piqué for years, and they seem quite happy together. The two met during filming for "Waka Waka," Shakira's song that was tied into the World Cup that was happening at the time.

“For me, it was very shocking," the soccer star explained to "60 Minutes" correspondent Bill Whitaker. "I had to dance. I had to do some movement. For me, it was ridiculous."
The Colombian singer explained how Piqué wound up catching her eye. "I wasn’t a soccer fan, so I didn’t know who he was," Shakira explained. "But when I saw the video, I was like, ‘Hmm, that guy’s kind of cute!’ And then someone decided to introduce us." The rest is history.
Despite the fact that the two of them have been happy together for almost a decade, Shakira flatly refuses to marry him. "To tell you the truth," Shakira told Whitaker as the soccer stary looked on "marriage scares the s--t out of me. I don’t want him to see me as 'The Wife,'" she said, using her fingers to form quotation marks.
In the interview, Shakira also opened up about her inability to accept anything less than perfect in her performances and work.
"I can be really hard on myself, wanting it be 100% perfect, but…I know perfection doesn’t exist but it’s a lesson I haven’t quite learned yet," Shakira said. "If it were up to me, I wouldn’t be celebrating any of my performances really…There’s always something that I wished would have been done differently, and I could’ve done better."
It's clear that Shakira will be working incredibly hard to make her performance at the Super Bowl next month as memorable as it can be.
The songstress has sold more than 80 million records across the globe since her career began, and she said that her interest in anthropology has only helped her as a musician.
"You know, when I was a kid, I wanted to be an anthropologist," she said. "I guess somehow, I’m kind of vicariously being one through my music."
She also made it clear that, for her, creating music was therapeutic. It's her way of fighting restlessness and ensuring that she's always moving forward.
