Shakira Channels Selena, Plays a Mechanic in ‘Entre Parentesis’ Video With Grupo Frontera

Come for an oil change, stay for the heartbreak!

On Monday, Shakira surprised her fans by releasing the video for “Entre Parentesis,” one of the new songs from her album Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran, alongside Grupo Frontera.

The video sees the boys of Frontera alongside Shakira and performing the track from within a mechanic shop in between shots of the “Acróstico” singer channelling Selena Quintanilla’s dance moves in front of a crowd.

“You can tell when someone loves you, but when someone doesn’t, you can tell even more,” Shakira duets with Frontera vocalist Payo Solis. “Before, you’d show up without calling, now you leave without a warning.”

“Entre Parentesis” — which Suzy Exposito described as “a dejection cumbia that calls to mind her love-triangle-themed 2001 track “Objection (Tango)” in a Rolling Stone review — is featured on Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran, Shakira’s first album in seven years.

The musician celebrated the album’s release on Friday by dropping an eclectic video for “Puntería,” the album’s opening track featuring Cardi B. The LP also featured her massive hits “TQG” with Karol G, her Bizarrap Music Session, and “El Jefe” with Fuerza Regida.

“In Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran, Shakira finally gets to turn the page on these tempestuous past two years, and reintroduce herself — not as Shakira the soccer mom, nor Shakira the heartbroken — but Shakira fucking Mebarak, international pop icon and undefeated champ,” read Exposito’s review.

Meanwhile, Frontera has been teasing an experimental new album after reviving norteño cumbias with their debut album. “We were skeptical and thought, ‘How’s this going to sound?’ But honestly, we jam out to every song on the new album,” Solis recently told Rolling Stone about their upcoming record, which channels George Strait.
